There’s a snazzy way to spruce up your Facebook page. You can add a video as the cover image! The editing icon on the cover image switches between a camera and a video camera.
Requirements
Per the Facebook help file:
Dimensions: 820 x 312
Length: 20 – 90 seconds
It’s an absolute requirement to have the video be at least 20 seconds long. I tried to upload one previously that was shorter and Facebook declined it. The Facebook help recommends that you create an 820 x 462 video.
In the time since I first wrote this post, new video companies have launched that make it easy to produce videos for use in social media. You might want to look into that as well. One example is Wave video, which has a Facebook cover image video template. Canva is another company. Keep in mind that you can incorporate still images into video editors and zoom in or pan to produce movement in the video. It’s not always necessary to include or purchase expensive video clips.
To add a video for a Facebook page cover image
1. Cover image > Edit > Choose from videos.
2. Select the video and review the positioning.
3. Click Next.
4. Select a thumbnail and click Save Changes.
Because Facebook often changes requirements, here’s a link to the help topic for more information: How do I add or change my Page’s cover video on Facebook?
